9 Implications of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ
On April 1, New Life Baptist Church in Harvest met for their annual Resurrection Sunday service at 8:30 a.m.
While the majority of people celebrate Easter with colorful hidden eggs, cute bunnies, and lots of candy, there is so much more to this special holiday. Resurrection Sunday, as the name suggests, is the designated day that Christians around the world remember the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Pastor Eric Swinney preached on the significance of this historic event and its implications. He covered 9 major points, and kept listeners engaged as they turned with him to read from 16 passages of Scripture. Let's jump right in.
1. The resurrection of Jesus demands proclamation by those who believe.
Luke 24:46-49; Acts 1:4-8
In these passages, Jesus tells His disciples who see Him after the resurrection that they are His witnesses and they must spread news of Him throughout the world, telling all nations.
2. The resurrection of Jesus declares His Sonship.
Romans 1:4-7
Jesus is the one third of the Trinity, God the Son.3. The resurrection of Jesus makes possible the New Birth and its benefits.
1 Peter 1:3-4
According to this passage, it is through Jesus's resurrection that Christians are born again.4. The resurrection of Jesus assures those who believe of their on bodily resurrection.
Romans 6:4-10; 1 Corinthians 6:14; 2 Corinthians 4:14
One day, there will be a physical, bodily resurrection of all saints in Christ. The fact that Jesus Himself was raised to life gives us a steadfast assurance that we, too, will be raised to life.5. The resurrection of Jesus was with power and that same power is at work in us now.
Romans 6:4-23; Ephesians 1:19-20
One of my favorite songs says, "The same power that rose Jesus from the grave, the same power that commands the dead to wake, lives in us." This doctrine is such a powerful, incredible reality for believers.6. The resurrection of Jesus ensures the justification of those that believe.
Acts 13:36-39; Romans 4:25
According to Romans 4:25, He was delivered over to be crucified because of our transgressions, but raised because of our justification.7. The resurrection of Jesus makes our preaching real (full) and our faith real (full).
1 Corinthians 15:14
This passage written by Paul in 1 Corinthians blatantly says that if Christ had not risen, then the entirety of the Christian faith is vain (empty). The gospel hangs on this truth: that Jesus Christ was raised from the dead.8. The resurrection of Jesus proves that the dead will rise, which motivates believers to live for that Day.
Acts 24:15-16; 1 Corinthians 15:16; 20-21
This point is summarized by Acts 24:16, where it is written that "In view of (the bodily resurrection)*, I also do my best to maintain always a blameless conscience both before God and before men."9. The resurrection of Jesus proves that corruptible will put on incorruption, and mortal will put on immortality, that we might say, "Death is swallowed up in victory."
1 Corinthians 15:54
Oh Death! Where is your sting? Oh Hades! Where is your victory?Let us celebrate the reality that we serve a RISEN Savior!
