He leads me beside still waters
"He leads me beside still waters, he restores my soul."
On days when life seems to be a never ending to-do list of tasks never fully completed, it's important to take time to be still before God. For my husband and I, our favorite way to step away and be refreshed is to get outdoors and soak up the fresh air.
This week we visited Pike County Lake several times. Sometimes we go for an hour, sometimes two. We never stay very long, but it's just enough time to be refreshed and ready to tackle the next thing.
Lately I've had the pleasure of reading several good Christian books, which is the perfect complement to time spent in the quiet stillness of nature.
I was skeptical of the book at first, thinking it would be a book focused on self-esteem rather than the gospel, but I have been pleasantly surprised with how the author uses the Bible to combat patterns of sinful thinking that I previously didn't even recognize.
It is such a blessing to retreat from the chaos of life and slip into a focused time of meditating on the truth of Who God is and who I am in light of that. His thoughts are higher. His ways are better. I must continually surrender and submit.
"Be still, and know that I am God."
